Breaking news out of Winnipeg as the Winnipeg Jets announce they have traded top prospect Rutger McGroarty to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

These reports have surfaced from prominent hockey insider Elliot Friedman on X (formally known as twitter)
This comes as no real shock to Winnipeg Jets fans as Elliot Friedman expressed on his 32 Thoughts podcast that McGroarty was "unhappy" with the Jets organization, hinting at a trade during the NHL offseason.
McGroarty, 20, expressed reservations about his future with Winnipeg earlier this off-season, leading to general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff exploring trade options for the player he selected 14th overall just two summers ago.

The Nebraska native registered 52 points over 36 games at the University of Michigan last season but has not yet signed his entry-level contract.

The return has not been disclosed yet, but Winnipeg Jets are now seeing their former 14th overall draft pick head to Pittsburgh to seek NHL ice-time there.
