Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell could be running out of options regarding forward Patrik Laine.

On the latest edition of TSN's Overdrive Podcast, the guys discuss that Patrik Laine "does not want to play for the Blue Jackets". Although Patrik Laine has made his intensions very clear, trade developments have proven to be rather difficult for the Blue Jackets GM thus far.
"This is a different situation than any that I've really dealt with," he said during a recent appearance on TSN's "OverDrive." "I've had players that have requested trades, and sometimes you trade them, sometimes you don't. ... (Laine has) been very vocal about it, way before I got here, that he does not want to play for the Blue Jackets. There was a lot of things that went on in the locker room, and he just doesn't want it.

Don Waddell also made bold statements regarding his trade conversations with other teams. According to the Jackets GM, there has been steady negotiations with interested parties and discloses that theres at least three very interested teams.
"This is different because it's harder to bring him back knowing the situation. But saying that, that might be the option. We're into the summer, he's got a high cap hit for two years. I'm talking to teams every day, I've got two or three teams engaged right now, we'll see where it goes." Waddell said

There is a strong possibility that Patrik might be stuck in Columbus ahead of the 2024-2025 NHL season. Despite making his stance on the organization very clear, Laine might have to tough it out if a trade fails to get done.
