Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos has reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs could be looking to move on from forward David Kampf.

With still over two months left in the NHL offseason, there's plenty of room for more drama and blockbuster trades. But when it comes down to veteran Maple Leafs forward David Kampf, GM Brad Treliving is considering parting ways.
Kampf is entering the second year of the four-year $9.6 million deal he signed on June 28, 2023. He's set to make $2.4 million in the next three years, and Kypreos thinks Toronto should replace him with a cheaper option.
The Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves in a similar situation to the Winnipeg Jets. GM Treliving seems to be looking internally to their farm system for certain prospects to make the jump next season.
With top prospects poised for an NHL breakout like Fraser Minton, it presents an opportunity to make room in their cap situation to offload unnecessary assets.
Toronto is currently over the salary cap by $694k, according to CapFriendly, so the Maple Leafs do need to clear cap space and Kampf could be a trade candidate.
