Breaking news out of Winnipeg as Jets have signed defenceman and former Winnipeg Ice player Ben Zloty.
This is key acquisitions by Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff as Zloty will be a huge help for the Manitoba Moose, the Jets AHL farm affiliate. The Alberta native is quite familiar with the city of Winnipeg as he played junior hockey for the Ice in the WHL.
Coming from Calgary left shot defenceman Ben Zloty was in Winnipeg with the Ice for four seasons (although one of those years was a bubble season when the WHL played in Regina). He spent most of last year in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads picking up seven goals and 16 assists in 42 games. He also played four games for the Stars.
It seems GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has been loading up with AHL prospects the past few weeks. This may be indicative that their current pool of prospects such as Brad Lambert and Thomas Milic will have their opportunity to make the jump to the NHL this year.
