Its no secret that Russian hockey legend Alex Ovechkin is in the twilight of his NHL career.

Just by analyzing his play on the ice, NHL enthusiasts can notice a steady decline in his overall performance due to the natural aging process in pro hockey.
With that being said, Ovechkin is coming extremely close to cracking the great Wayne Gretzky's all time scoring record and plans to play in the NHL until he reaches that career milestone.
But what comes next for the great 8 after he breaks Gretzky's record? In a recent interview, Ovechkin hints that he plans on leaving North America to settle down in Russia.
Ovechkin also revealed his plans to return to Russia upon retirement, expressing no intention of staying in North America. He spoke about his strong connection to his homeland, where his friends, relatives, and his wife Nastya's family reside. He noted that despite his strong bond with the Washington community and the broader hockey world, he misses home and looks forward to returning to Russia when the time comes.

"In Russia, all my friends, relatives, Nastya's relatives are here too," Ovechkin said. "I feel more comfortable in Russia at the moment than there. [When] our season is ending, and we want to fly home right away because we miss home, our family, our friends."

Who knows? When he gets back to Russia, he might even have some energy left for a stint in the KHL. NHL enthusiasts know one thing for sure...the hockey world will miss Ovechkin dearly.
