As the NHL offseason buzz continues, rumours have linked the Winnipeg Jets and the Montreal Canadiens in a blockbuster trade.
"Jets reportedly interested in acquiring David Savard from Canadiens"
Its no secret that the Jets have a strong team. They were contenders for the presidents trophy during their 2024-25 regular season campaign, but ultimately, their blue liners were lacking depth leading to a 1st round exit from the playoffs.
David Savard is a proven NHL defenceman that could solve plenty of issues of the Jets regarding their backend. With Logan Stanley and Colin Miller being the biggest question marks, the Jets could really use Savard's services ahead of next season.
The Winnipeg Jets have expressed interest in Savard as well, so they should absolutely be watched. Savard would be a solid addition to their second or third pairing and would give them a bit more bite on the backend. Savard also has no trade protection, so he could be an ideal target for the Jets.
Savard doesn't have a "NTC" protection under his current contract with the Habs, therefore, it makes him a prime trade candidate for Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.
The Jets still have two pocket aces regarding forward Nikolaj Ehlers and top prospect Rutger McGroarty, so the hockey world should be on high alert concerning a trade between these two franchises.
