NHL players partaking in the online gambling world is a huge no-no.
Unfortunately for Shane Pinto, he got involved in the online gambling scene and was ultimately reprimanded for it.
"I had my buddies, because I was in Canada, just place bets for me in America," Pinto said. "I wasn't a Canadian citizen, so I couldn't really use a Canadian sportsbook. So I just had my buddies place bets for me, and that's proxy betting. So, that's obviously a big no-no.
The league decided to give Shane Pinto a monstrous 41 game suspension. A punishment he openly accepted and dealt with like a man. Following his suspension, Pinto came back with a vengeance and was one of the top forwards for the Sens.
Pinto showed no ill effects either, putting up 27 points in the team's final 41 games last season. That's a 54-point pace, which was better than fellow centre Josh Norris (49-point pace) in his partial season (50 games).
Pinto took the learning experience from his punishment and utilized it to come back as a better and person because of it. Now that his suspension in far behind him, Pinto looks ahead to next season to be part of something special.
