Bleacher Report, a prominent online sports resource have indicated that the Winnipeg Jets are offseason losers.

Its no secret that the Winnipeg Jets made no big moves during the course of the NHL offseason. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has been heavily scrutinized the past few weeks for making no attempts at signing key UFA's to bolster the Jets top 6 and defence.
In addition to that, Bleacher Report discusses that the Winnipeg Jets poor offseason could have a detrimental impact on Vezina winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Considering all the elite UFA's who have walked away from the organization combined with a shrunken defensive core, the Winnipeg Jets could be in big trouble during the regular season.
"In fact, the support around Hellebuyck has likely gotten significantly worse with the departures of Sean Monahan, Tyler Toffoli, Nate Schmidt, Brenden Dillon and backup goalie Laurent Brossoit. The only significant addition has been a new backup goalie, Kaapo Kahkonen, who is likely to be worse than Brossoit was."

Not only will Hellebuyck likely have a worse defense and less scoring depth in front of him, he also may have to take on an even bigger workload with a lesser backup behind him. The Jets are not helping their best player.

Bleacher Report suggests that the Jets management staff has been complacent during the course of the NHL offseason. Having an elite goaltender like Connor Hellebuyck can trick teams and front offices into thinking their team is better than it actually is because the goalie can mask so many flaws. It will be interested to see how Scott Arniel and the Jets squad responds to the criticism.
