Interesting reports have emerged regarding Winnipeg Jets defensive prospect Markus Loponen.
Loponen, a sound defensive prospect for the Winnipeg Jets will be calling North America home next season. According to sources, Loponen has asked for a contract termination with Kärpät and has been acquired by the WHL's Victoria Royals.
Finnish prospect Markus Loponen was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 5th round during this years NHL entry draft in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He had been scheduled to play in Finland this season with Karpat but as per Lassi Alanen (Director of European Scouting for Elite Prospects):
«Kärpät announces the team has terminated their contract with Markus Loponen (WPG) following a request from the player, and that Loponen will be heading to the CHL for the upcoming season.»
The Jets will be keeping a close eye on Loponen ahead of the WHL regular season. Having one of their best defensive prospects a little closer to home will be beneficial for his development with the team.
