It was recently announced that Patrik Laine has been acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenceman Jordan Harris.

Although this trade was one of the more substantial news headlines during the NHL offseason, the risky move by GM Kent Hughes has fans in Montreal feeling somewhat divided. Despite some Canadiens enthusiasts embracing the idea of of Patrik Laine coming to town, others don't see it the same way.
"Montreal always does this. They get the has-been goal-scorers and try to shape them into something," one fan at McLean's Pub said.

On the other hand, some fans are feeling the excitement heading into next season. Historically, Montreal has been known to acquire controversial "Mavericks" which in some circumstances hasn't benefited the team. Although risky, some fans see the appeal.
«I kind of love this deal. Montreal needs goal-scorers, they need size. Now Laine can be such a dog and can be so lazy and there are times (you say) ‘what the hell is this guy doing?' it's exciting with him in Montreal because of that fan base and what they're starting to crave and how that team is looking to the future and the fan base has been patient and they also love a flashy goal-scorer." Another fan said

It's safe to say the overall sentiment regarding Patrik Laine coming to Montreal is pretty 50/50. Some fans are currently up in arms about the whole ordeal, and some are chomping at the bits, counting down the days until puck-drop.
Regardless of the outcomes next season, Patrik Laine has been given a glorious second chance coming out of the NHLPA's players assistance program. No one knows how the veteran star will perform, but he's admitted that he'll do everything in his power to help the Canadiens succeed.
