With the NHL regular season rapidly approaching, many Jets enthusiasts are wondering what is going on with top prospect Rutger McGroarty.

McGroarty has been the centre of attention all offseason long for the Jets. Elliot Friedman disclosed on his 32 thoughts podcast that Rutger wants out of Winnipeg due to being "unhappy" with the organization.
So what are the next steps for Rutger? The boys over at Jets Nation have the answers.
After it was reported that McGroarty was returning back to the University of Michigan next season, Jets fans seemed fine with the decision, as he could join the team later in the 2024-25 season. Unfortunately, one development led to another, and it seems like the Jets weren't willing to offer the chance at a NHL roster spot that McGroarty wanted, thus leading to the trade request.

There's still some (not sure really how much) hope that things can be repaired between McGroarty and the Jets, but for the time being he still remains the Jets #1 prospect.

Rutger has committed to playing at least 2 more NCAA seasons with the University of Michigan. There's still a slight chance that relations between the Jets and Rutger can be salvaged.
If Rutger performs well next season, there are rumours indicating that McGroarty could potentially get some NHL ice time if things improve pertaining to his situation with management.
