Ken Campbell, an author for The Hockey News recently posted an article about why the Winnipeg Jets should "lie" to their top prospect Rutger McGroarty.

Its no secret that the Winnipeg Jets are in dire straits with their current top propsect Rutger McGroarty. Rutger is seeking an immediate departure from the organization due to being "unhappy" with the Jets.
McGroarty feels that he's NHL ready, and should be absolved of any stints in the AHL to earn his spot on the roster. But the truth is, the young prospect is far from ready and needs to earn his stripes like any other player emerging into the NHL.
So what do the Jets do in this situation? Ken Campbell discloses that there's an easy way out of this situation. Sign McGroarty, lie to him about a roster spot, and send him to the AHL anyways.
The Jets could lie to McGroarty to appease him. So could any other team that acquires his rights. But the bottom line is if Rutger McGroarty is good enough to play in the NHL, that's where he'll be. If not, he won't.
