As the highly anticipated NHL off-season approaches, we take a look at the latest trade scenario regarding Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers.

Nikolaj Ehlers has been a fan favourite for the Jets faithful since being drafted 9th overall in 2015. Although he has yet to notch a 30+ goal season in the league, Ehlers have always posed as an electric offensive player capable of generating timely goals and dazzling plays. Last season for the Jets, Ehlers tallied a respectable 25 goals, 36 assists and was a +27 rating through 82 regular season games.
With a very tight budget entering the NHL off-season, Jets general manager Cheveldayoff has just over $13 million in cap space to work with.
With pending free agents such as Sean Monahan, Cole Perfetti and Tyler Toffoli as well as defenders Dylan DeMelo and Brenden Dillon and goalie Laurent Brossoit, Cheveldayoff will be looking to create some space in his budget. Ehlers makes roughly $6 million AAV, therefore making a prime target to be traded away. So who are some potential teams looking to land Ehlers?
Sources have speculated that the New York Islanders and the Chicago Blackhawks are some of the interested parties in taking on Nikolaj Ehlers. The New York Islanders seems like the top destination for the young Danish forward as he would be joining a team poised for a Stanley Cup run and could serve as a key missing piece in the Islanders top 6 depth.
Ehlers also has been performing at an extremely consistent level and would likely provide the Jets lots of value on a blockbuster deal. Could we see the likes of Ehlers being traded to the Islanders in the coming weeks?
