Davis Payne, the newly appointed assistant bench boss for the Winnipeg Jets is looking forward to his new role ahead of the 2024-25 regular season.

Davis Payne was born in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island. the now 53 year old found his love for the game early in life and his hockey career included four seasons of NCAA hockey at Michigan Tech as a hard-nosed winger with the Huskies.
Originally chosen in the seventh round of the 1989 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Payne battled his way to suiting up in 22 NHL games with the Boston Bruins by doing things the hard way.

Davis Payne is also a special teams mastermind. He was specifically hired by the Jets in order to revamp the power play, an area the team ranked 22nd in the league last season.
The Jets have no shortage of offensive firepower, and theres absolutely no reason for the Jets to be struggling so mightily of special teams. Payne has a really great philosophy he will be looking to implement to his new structure.
«Whatever unit you want to talk about, whatever player you want to talk about, there's some really skilled players that you can work with to help the hockey club. So that's enticing,» said Payne. «I truly believe that you have to be dangerous from above and you have to be dangerous from below and constantly attacking.
