Breaking news out of the NHL as Nashville Predators top goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov has been traded to the San Jose Sharks.
With the Nashville Predators committing long-term to Juuse Saros, Askarov sought an NHL role, avoiding more time in the AHL. San Jose, amid a rebuild, offers him that chance, with their current goaltending tandem of MacKenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek providing space for Yaroslav Askarov to step in.
This move highlights the Sharks' focus on developing young talent as they retool their roster, making Yaroslav Askarov a potential cornerstone for their future. His addition is a significant step in the team's rebuilding efforts.
The Winnipeg Jets are well versed in this type of situation. Askarov is one of those players who reflects Rutger McGroarty, who was just traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Askarov made it very clear to the Predators management staff that he was not interested in a stint in the AHL and feels ready to immediate NHL ice-time.
The Sharks are taking a big risk by acquiring Askarov, but the opportunity of being acquired by a team currently re-building should guarantee Askarov immediate NHL action.
