The latest buzz surrounding the Winnipeg Jets involves a potential block buster acquisition involving the Detroit Red Wings UFA defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.

Its not secret that the Jets are looking to beef up their blue line after struggling in the post season. Their key defenders such as Nate Schmidt, Neal Pionk and Dylan DeMelo were a combined -8 rating against the Colorado Avalanche during the first round of the 2024 NHL playoffs.
With this in mind, Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff looks to the open market to provide some much needed support concerning their back-end.
With just over $13 million dollars in open cap space, Cheveldayoff is poised to pick up an affordable defenseman who can provide some effective relief for the Jets. Could UFA Shayne Gostisbehere be the answer?
Gostisbehere has remained a solid top-four option with roughly 40-60 point production, which could work really well with the Jets. He hit career highs in the 2017-18 season with 52 assists and 65 points, which he came close to last season with 46 assists and 56 points. Since the start of the 2021-22 season, Gostisbehere has the 18th-most points of any defenseman (148) and the 11th-most goals (37) over a 238-game span.

31 year old Shayne Gostisbehere is rumoured to be asking roughly $4 million AAV per season and would be a great fit on a pairing with either Morrissey, Pionk or DeMelo.
