Bombshell update on Patrik Laine

A massive update has been issued by hockey insider Jason Gregor regarding Patrik Laine's trade situation.
Patrik Laine has been linked to the Washington Capitals as they have seemed to emerge as the front runners to acquire the former Winnipeg Jets top scorer.
Sources have confirmed the Capitals interest in Laine, but the organization would like to speak to him and his camp directly before negotiations start.
Although, there's a dilemma in the situation. Patrik Laine has announced that he will be staying in the NHLPA's assistance program for the foreseeable future.
Due to Laine being stuck in the program, it negates any direct conversation Laine can have with interested parties as it goes against NHL protocols.
MacLellan and his staff ultimately have to determine if they want Laine's services and what they are willing to give up to get him. It would be interesting to see how Carbery would use him. There almost would certainly be a temptation to put him on a line with Ovechkin and see if any chemistry is created between the two.
Patrik Laine carries a cap hit of $8.7 million for the next two years. The Washington Capitals seem unfazed by Laine's heft price point and it appears they would like to begin negotiations upon Patrik Laine's completion of the assistance program.
