It was recently announced that the Winnipeg Jets have acquired Brayden Yager from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for disgruntled prospect Rutger McGroarty.

Now, the competition for a starting roster position concerning the Jets prospects just got a whole lot juicier. Heading into training camp, it was reported that Brad Lambert was the top candidate poised to crack a starting roster position on the team. With Brayden Yager now in the mix, Lambert definitely has his work cut-out for him. Did Yager just pull the rug from under Lamberts feet?
Yager, a 6-foot, 170-pound forward set new career highs with 35 goals (including six game-winners) and 60 assists for 95 points and a +19 rating. Yager recorded three or more points on 14 occasions, highlighted by a hat trick against Swift Current in November and a monster six-assist night against Regina in March.
The 19-year-old finished third among all WHLers in playoff scoring with 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points and a +10 rating in 20 games, bolstered by an overtime winner in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Championship against the Saskatoon Blades and two multi-point efforts in Games 2 and 3 of the WHL Championship Series.

All the buzz the past few weeks was Lambert being a shoe-in for cementing his role in the Jets top 6. There was even heavy discussion regarding Lambert being a front runner for the Calder Trophy next season. With Brayden Yager now in the mix, the preseason showdown between these two top prospects will be one Jets fan wont want to miss. Who will come out on top? Only time will tell.
