The NHL off-season is rapidly approaching and sources have linked the Winnipeg Jets and the Carolina Hurricanes in a blockbuster trade.

Its no secret that the Winnipeg Jets are in the process of moving some high end assets around before the start of the 2024-2025 NHL season. Sources have confirmed that Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is currently entering negotiations with the Carolina Hurricanes to acquire forward Martin Necas.
"I'm told five to seven teams invite intriguing possibilities for the Hurricanes, but no one's gone up to the price that they'd like to see. Winnipeg, Chicago, Boston, and Montreal among the teams that have inquired." Said TSN insider Pierre LeBrun

Among the trade bait for the Winnipeg Jets is forward Nikolaj Ehlers who is rumoured not be re-signing for the Jets this off-season. Kevin Cheveldayoff has expressed interest in keeping Nikolaj Ehlers, but with just over $13 million dollars in cap space to work with, it seems unlikely they will get a value deal done in time.
"A lot of speculation around one of their veteran forwards, and that's Nikolaj Ehlers," Dreger said. "He is going into the final year of his contract, and I know that general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is at least open to having conversations with interested general managers. I think of the Carolina Hurricanes, potentially the connection there with Marty Necas also in play.

Could we see a blockbuster deal happen between the two clubs? Last year for the Hurricanes, Necas posted 24 goals and 53 points in 77 regular season games.
