As we enter the highly anticipated NHL off season, the latest rumour circulating around is a blockbuster trade involving Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers.
According to Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos, The Chicago Blackhawks are the latest team expressing a significant amount of interest in acquiring veteran Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers. Among the trade conversation includes top prospect Rutger McGroarty whom the Blackhawks also seem to be keeping their eye on.
"The proposed trade package from the Jets would send Ehlers and McGroarty to Chicago in exchange for defenseman Connor Murphy, forward Lukas Reichel, and a 2024 first-round pick from the New York Islanders."
Ehlers, 29, had a solid year for the Winnipeg Jets, playing all 82 regular season games posting 25 goals and notching 36 assists during their campaign.
The Jets have a strong opportunity to capitalize on a deal utilizing Ehlers and McGroarty as enticing trade bait to bolster their team next season.
The Jets currently do not have a first round pick this year in the 2024 NHL draft, therefore a package deal to the Blackhawks could lead to a significant return if trade comes to fruition.
The Winnipeg Jets are lacking serious support on their blue line, and are also looking to beef up their farm system in the AHL. The trade would also make a lot of sense for the Blackhawks as they are lacking serious offensive firepower and ranked in the league bottom in scoring last season.
Could we be seeing Ehlers and McGroarty heading out the door in a package deal to Chicago?
