Tension seems to be mounting between the Winnipeg Jets and their star prospect Rutger McGroarty.

During Elliot Friedman's 32 thoughts podcast, the highly respected NHL insider hints at the notion that Rutger McGroarty has made the decision to play in the NCAA next year for Michigan. This may be a major indication that McGroarty is unhappy with the Jets management of his future development.
"According to those familiar with McGroarty's situation, the decision to stick with Michigan for the coming season is one made due to decisions stemming from Jets management on various prospects' development paths."

McGroarty, who was selected 14th overall by the Jets in the 2022 NHL draft is now the centre of trade discussions as we approach the highly anticipated NHL off-season. Among the interested teams are the Ottawa Senators, the New York Islanders, the Washington Capitals, and the New Jersey Devils.
"His family advisor is not talking, and the Jets are not talking, but the one thing I can tell you is that I have heard his name has come up in trade discussions... The Jets have discussed trading him, and other teams have discussed acquiring McGroarty's rights.

Could we see Rutger McGroarty be traded to another team in the coming weeks? He certainly is a highly skilled player which other teams seem to have their eyes set on. With the Jets missing the first round of the NHL draft this year, McGroarty could be valuable trade bait to get a first round draft pick in return.
