Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is currently facing intense scrutiny.
The first few days of the highly anticipated NHL off season has had some mixed reviews in Jets Nation. Many fans are frustrated by the lack of activity generated by GM Kevin Cheveldayoff as he has seemed to veer off course from his initial plans.
Winnipeg Jets reporter Scott Bileck suggests that GM Cheveldayoff has had a "knee jerk" shift in mentality from signing high end UFA's, to now looking internally within the Jets organization to promote prospects within their farm system.
"And the more you think about it, the more it seems like Kevin Cheveldayoff's sudden focus shift to his promising prospects was more of a knee-jerk reaction to being unable to deliver the job he wanted on Monday after failing on Plan A."
Cheveldayoff also claims he presented "competitive" offers to character UFA's like Brenden Dillon and Sean Monahan, but ultimately let them walk away which could in turn prove to be a huge mistake.
In addition, sources have confirmed that GM Cheveldayoff also tried to make a deal with Edmonton Oilers UFA Adam Henrique, but failed to do so after the Oilers agreed to terms with the veteran player. The NHL off-season is off to a very confusing start for the Winnipeg Jets.
