Josh Morrissey is easily the best defenceman on the current Winnipeg Jets roster.
The Hockey News has recently published an intriguing article that breaks down the best blue-liners of the Winnipeg Jets 2.0 era. Although Dustin Byfuglien edged out Morrissey, theres not denying that Morrissey makes a compelling argument for the #1 spot.
The former Prince Albert Raider has worked his way up from the AHL to becoming a superstar stud on the blueline. Not many NHL defenceman can dish the puck like Morrissey can, and it shows as he is top-4 in points for blueliners (145) over the past two seasons and has the second-most points at the position (311) in Jets new era.
His recent partnership with teammate Dylan DeMelo has been a match made in heaven, as the duo had the third-most goals by a defensive pairing last season (62) and played the second-most minutes played together with a staggering total of 1,207 minutes.
Although he's the best D-man on the Jets right now, Byfuglien has has Morrissey outmatched in almost every statistical category.
If Morrissey manages to take home the Norris Trophy in 2024-2025, there's no doubt the best blue-liners Jets of 2.0 will need to go through a re-ranking process. In addition to his impressive numbers on the Jets, Morrissey's contract has been ranked the 5th best in the NHL in terms of overall value.
