The Columbus Blue Jackets have recently completed a block buster trade and have parted ways with Patrik Laine.

Laine has been recently cleared from the NHLPA's players assistance program due to reported mental health issues, and Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell wasted no time to trade away his prized asset.
The Blue Jackets, who also sent a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to the Canadiens, received defenseman Jordan Harris.
With that being said, Patrik Laine is embracing the new challenge in front of him. It seems that Laine is bringing a new outlook on life into the city of Montreal and mentions he will do whatever it takes for the Canadiens to be successful.
«But it's not just all about that. I want to come in and do whatever it takes to contribute to the team and help the team win, whether it's me scoring 50 or scoring 20, as long as the team wins. I'm getting to that age, I'm not 19 years old anymore. I just want to win.»

Indeed, the 26-year-old is ready for a fresh start with the Canadiens, who are looking to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs after not qualifying the past three seasons. He has two seasons remaining on the four-year, $34.8 million contract ($8.7 million average annual value) he signed with Columbus on July 22, 2022.

It will be interesting to see what Patrik Laine can accomplish with this new change of scenery. The Montreal Canadiens are a young team looking to get back into the playoff picture, and Patrik Laine could very well be the missing piece to the puzzle.
