The speculation around Rutger McGroarty continues to make headlines in Winnipeg.

The intensity reached its climax when Elliot Friedman discussed on his 32 thoughts podcast that the disgruntled prospect wanted out of Winnipeg due to being "unhappy" with the organization.
Recently, Ken Campbell, an accredited hockey writer suggested that one possible solution in order to deal with McGroarty would be to simply lie.
Although the solution might seem crazy, it offers a simple way out. The Jets would simply need make empty promises regarding his demands in order to quiet the whole situation down.
In fact, Campbell explains that all the Jets have to do is tell McGroarty he'll have a role and invite him to training camp. That way, if he has the caliber to play in the top-6, he'll have proven his worth to the coaching staff and if he doesn't, he'll lose his leverage.

If he doesn't play like a top-6 caliber guy at camp, other teams won't want to trade for him by promising him a role on their top-6, after all.

Regardless, if McGroarty proves his worth to be an NHL starter, thats exactly where he'll be. On the other hand, if Rutger proves he needs added development time in the AHL, head coach Scott Arniel will have no choice but to send him down.
