Recent headlines came out of Montreal as the Habs seem poised to acquire Rutger McGroarty from the Winnipeg Jets.

The proposed trade was Canadiens propsect Filip Mesar, defenceman Justin Barron, and a 2025 NHL draft pick in exchange for Winnipegs Jets star prospect Rutger McGroarty.
While most Montreal fans would be happy with the trade mentioned and might be disappointed that it didn't pan out, they shouldn't be discouraged. McGroarty was drafted in 2022 and has gone the NCAA route, currently playing at the University of Michigan, so there are still two years before his signing rights expire,. As time passes, the pressure grows on Cheveldayoff and the Jets.

Although some Habs fans are disappointed the trade didn't work out, Fans are calling for Kent Hughes to be patient.
It looks like Rutger McGroarty will take time to develop in the NCAA. Although NHL enthusiasts are calling for the trade to happen now, Hughes is wise to be patient and see how Rutger performs at the NCAA level this upcoming season.
