Its no secret that the Edmonton Oilers love Leon Draisaitl. The German forward has been a catalyst for their power play, additionally being a top 5 forward in the NHL the past half decade.
The Edmonton Oilers faithful are facing some heartache as of late, as the recent rumours circulating indicate that Draisaitl will be heading out the door to chase a lucrative contract elsewhere. But hold on now...
While some reports suggest Draisaitl might sign an eight-year deal, the news of a potential shorter term could surprise Oilers fans. Nonetheless, Draisaitl's commitment to staying in Edmonton, where he has the best chance for individual success and a Stanley Cup run, is clear. Despite playing on a relatively discounted contract for the past eight years, a shorter extension offers him greater financial reward and flexibility.
Looks like Leon will be staying in oilcountry for at least the next 3 seasons. It may not be 8 years, but at least its something.
