Over the course of the NHL offseason, trading away away top prospect Rutger McGroarty has proved to be somewhat difficult.

McIntyre doesn't expect Winnipeg to give up on McGroarty, who is returning to the University of Michigan for his junior year amid reports of a disconnect with Jets management over his development path. McIntyre doesn't see the Jets moving him for pennies on the dollar if the relationship can't be salvaged.

Wiebe noted there were conversations with other clubs about trading McGroarty during the draft week. While the Jets haven't given up trying to repair the relationship, Wiebe thinks the young forward could be part of a deal by next year's trade deadline for a return that includes a defenseman with several years left on his contract.

Its looking like Rutger McGroarty will stay in the hands of the Jets for the forseable future. He's commited to playing NCAA hockey for the next two years, so it will take that long before the Jets can sign him.
Unless another golden trade opportunity presents itself, the Jets will continue to try and salvage their broken relationship.
