Winnipeg Jets trade rumor

Recently, a trade rejection between the Montreal and the Winnipeg Jets made headlines which caused a lot of confusion in the NHL.

Supposedly, the Jets and the Habs were about to pull the trigger on a deal that would have sent Filip Mesar to the Jets in exchange for Rutger McGroarty, although the nature of the rumours weren't clear.
The trade rumour, which was initially reported on X (formally known as twitter) was written in the Slovak language, then translated to french, and then translated back to english. But it all comes down to the source not being credible in the first place.
The ‘report' immediately set off red flags. It contained no sources and essentially attempted to paint Mesar as a bad egg due to his unwillingness to report to the development camp. To make things even more interesting, the report went as far as saying the Jets refused the trade offer, which was quite generous.

I think its safe to say that when it comes down to legitimate trade rumours, sources will always be the prime indicator wether or not its false or not.
