Daily Faceoff, a highly respected hockey resource have ranked Rutger McGroarty #1 in the Jets prospect pool.
Rutger McGroarty has caused quite the buzz this NHL offseason. Elliot Friedman announced on his 32 Thoughts podcast that the disgruntled prospect wanted out of Winnipeg due to being "unhappy" with the organization. Despite all the drama that Rutger caused, Daily Face Off still has some high praise for the young American.
McGroarty's status has been a hot topic this summer after it was made clear he wasn't going to sign with Winnipeg. And I seriously believe he should be in the NHL this season. Scouts love him. I love him. McGroarty does so much with and without the puck that I feel gets overlooked.

He's got size and speed, and the offense has been incredible this year, with him blasting past the 50-point mark as a sophomore in college. McGroarty battles so hard that, if he isn't scoring, he's still doing enough to keep himself relevant on the scoresheet. The World Juniors was proof of that. Every team should be looking to acquire McGroarty based on his skill.
The Winnipeg Jets acquired McGroarty 14th overall back in 2022. Rutger has made some bold statements this NHL offseason by claiming he's NHL ready, demanding immediate ice-time.
Although Rutger has committed to two more NCAA seasons with the University off Michigan, he still remains the Jets top prospect and will be a valuable trade asset for years to come.
