As we enter the pinnacle of the NHL off-season, the latest buzz surrounds former Winnipeg Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba.

A reliable NHL source has confirmed that New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury is working the phones with Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman regarding a block buster trade that would Rangers captain Jacob Trouba to hockey town.
We are told the Rangers may retain $2.5 million per year on the two remaining seasons of Trouba's $8M annual cap charge. That represents 31.25 percent retention that would also be applied to the $12M in salary Trouba has coming over the next two seasons.
The New York Rangers would need to find a suitable replacement for the gritty hard hitting defenceman who has been essential for their penalty kill. The deal would also provide the Rangers with an additional $5 million dollars of cap space relief.
Jacob Trouba's rumoured exit comes as a big shock to hockey enthusiasts around the league. Trouba has spent a total of 5 seasons with the Rangers, and the exit from the organization would come after being the team captain for only 2 seasons.
