In a sudden twist of events, former Winnipeg Jets player Jacob Trouba appears to be remaining in New York.

The recent buzz around the league surrounded New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba, rumoured to be traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Shockingly, it appears the blockbuster deal didn't go through because of Trouba's wife.
Jacob Trouba is currently signed with the New York Rangers under a heavy contract and still has two years remaining valued at over $8 Million AAV per season. This undoubtedly makes Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman's job difficult, but still seemed poised to get a deal done.
According to Larry Brooks of the NY Post, Trouba's personal situation is a huge factor keeping him in New York. When Trouba signed his seven-year, $56 million contract in 2019, it included a five-year no-movement clause that would end when his wife, Kelly Tyson-Trouba, completed her residency at a New York hospital. Her residency was deferred for a year and is now scheduled to end on July 1, 2025.

With Trouba's wife's residency being deferred for another year, this enhances the complexities of a trade scenario being completed. In addition to his the recent birth of his son Axel, it appears that Jacob Trouba is opting out of a trade to support his family.
