The Winnipeg Jets have multiple objectives ahead of the NHL regular season, but the most crucial one is fixing their special teams.

With the amount of offensive fire-power the Jets possess, one would think that their power play would dynamic. Despite their elite scoring ability 5v5, the Winnipeg Jets power play was abysmal last season, ranked at 22nd in the league.
In addition to that, their penalty kill didn't fair much better. The Jets PK also struggled mightily, ranking at 21st overall at just 77.1% efficiency. With that in mind, the organization will be looking to their new assistant coaches to sort out the mess.
Davis Payne and Dean Chynoweth, who will hopefully find a way to sort things out. Payne was briefly the head coach of the St. Louis Blues for part of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons before serving as the assistant coach to the Los Angeles Kings where he won the Stanley Cup in 2014. He will be responsible for bolstering the power play.

Chynoweth will be responsible for sorting out the penalty kill. With former assistant coach Brad Lauer out of the picture and new blood behind the bench, Arniel has a solid coaching staff to work with to hopefully bring the Jets' special teams up to par. If the Jets are able to maintain their offensive and defensive capabilities from last season, they could be a serious contender with their special teams nailed down.

The Jets are hoping that the new blood behind the bench will be the catalyst in improving their struggling special teams. With all the explosive talent combined with a new special teams regime, the Jets will look to rank in the top 10 in that department come next season.
