Now that the NHL season is finally beyond us, Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff prioritizes a first round draft pick.

With the NHL draft set to begin later this week, all eyes are on general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff to make some strategic trades to get the Winnipeg Jets back into the first round of the 2024 NHL draft.
Rumours are circulating about the assets Cheveldayoff is willing to give up, and its looking like forward Nikolaj Ehlers and top prospect Rutger McGroarty are on the chopping block. These two stars certainly pose as enticing trade bait to interested third parties which could generate a blockbuster return if a trade comes to fruition.
And what about Ehlers? As much as you can imagine a wider variety of suitors for McGroarty, you could certainly see a playoff team in search of scoring (New York Islanders, 20th overall; Boston Bruins, 25th overall; Carolina Hurricanes, 27th overall) or a non-playoff team desperate to get in there (Minnesota Wild, 13th overall; Detroit Red Wings, 15th) feeling things out to see if there's some kind of deal to be struck.

It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the coming days. With top names like Ehlers and McGroarty, the Winnipeg Jets will undoubtedly be back in the first round of the 2024 NHL draft.
