As the Winnipeg Jets summer development camp wraps up, one prospect has caught the attention of GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.
Chaz Luciuc, 21, was selected 18th overall in the 2021 NHL entry draft. Although he still remains one of the most talented Winnipeg Jets prospects, Lucius has had a disastrous start to his pro career plagued by injuries.
His heel issue halted this past season with the Manitoba Moose. In 2023, it was a shoulder. His one and only year in college in 2022 was curtailed by his ankle, and his draft year ended abruptly thanks to his knee, which left him in a wheelchair and required him to learn to walk again.
Although Lucius still isnt recovered 100%, the future seems bright for the young Jets prospect as he's poised to have a massive comeback season next year for the Manitoba Moose. Lucius is the epitome of resiliency which has caught the attention of GM Cheveldayoff.
«He's had to really show his resiliency, when we draft a player, they become part of our family, and you take care of them like they are your family,» general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said.
Lucius is set to be ready for training camp is September. If he manages to stay healthy, he easily enters training camp as one the Jets top prospects.
