During the 2024 NHL draft, Jets general manager was asked about the future of their star prospect Rutger McGroarty.
Theres been lots of buzz surrounding McGroarty the past few weeks after Eliott Friedman announced on his 32 thoughts podcast that the Jets top prospect was "unhappy" with the Jets organization.
Many hockey enthusiasts around the league were certain a trade would get done during the draft, but the Jets elite prospect is ultimately staying put for now as GM Kevin Cheveldayoff seems to be waiting an opportune moment to strike.
Recently during an interview, the Jets general manager was asked to provide an update regarding the status of the Jets top prospect. Cheveldayoff has now confirmed that McGroarty will not be attending the Winnipeg Jets development camp.
«I really don't have an update,» Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff told the media Saturday. «Obviously, he won't be at development camp coming up here. But, I really don't have an update at this point.»
This comes as concerning news for Jets fans as their top prospect will not be attending training camp and is standing firm on his position on not signing in Winninipeg.
This confirms the worst outcome possible for Jets fans who were hoping McGroarty could potentially ride out the storm and sign in Manitoba. Instead, the young prospect has opted out of training camp and is standing idle waiting for a trade opportunity to come his way. McGroarty will definitely be traded in the coming weeks.
