Leaked: Trevor Zegras almost got traded to the Canadiens

During the 2024 NHL entry draft in Las Vegas, a hockey insider leaked a trade that almost happened between the Anaheim Ducks and the Montreal Canadiens.
Trevor Zegras is either one of those players that you love or hate. He's definitely emerged as one of the NHL's elite offensive threats, but has seen a significant decline in performance last season.
The Montreal Canadiens are a "Maverick" team looking to scoop up high-end talent by any means necessary. They are currently one of the front runners for Patrik Laine, and in June, the Habs alost pulled the trigger on scooping up Zegras from the Ducks.

The proposed trade was Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras and a second round draft pick in exchange for Habs defenceman Logan Mailloux and a first round draft pick.
"According to Marco Normandin, the Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks had a trade lined up that would have sent Zegras and a 2nd round draft pick to Montreal for a package including the 1st round pick they eventually used to select Michael Hage. Apparently, the trade was denied in the final moments leading to the pick, as it's fair to assume Montreal was counting on Hage being available, which may have been the deciding factor in the deal." Keiran Bray of Hockey Talk Daily said.
Zegras, 23, had a challenging 2023-24 season, limited to 31 games due to injuries. He recorded 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists), 30 penalty minutes, and a minus-one rating. Despite this setback, the Bedford, New York native remains with the Ducks. As training camps approach mid-September, it will be intriguing to see if any teams will make increased trade offers for Zegras.
Although hockey insider Marco Normandin sent shockwaves down the league with this trade bust, theres still more time left in the offseason for a Zegras blockbuster trade to get done.
