As the debut of the highly anticipated NHL regular season approaches, Jets Latest gives fan an inside look at the Jets top defensive pairing.
The top projected defensive pairing for the Jets will comprise of Josh Morrissey and Dylan DeMelo. Morrissey is by far the best defenseman and the Jets and is known to play with a Norris Trophy type of calibre. DeMelo, who was recently re-signed by the Jets is another sound defender poised to have a breakout season.
Fresh off signing a new four-year, $19.6 million contract that will keep him around through the 2027-28 NHL season, DeMelo's place on the team's top pair - alongside Winnipeg's Norris Trophy nominee, Josh Morrissey - appears to be secure for the foreseeable future.

Pending injury or sudden change in ability, DeMelo has been Morrissey's most consistent partner over the past number of years. Serving as a solid stay-at-home rearguard, DeMelo did manage to set some career-highs offensively last season, while allowing Morrissey to continue being an active presence on the attack.
The pair will be heavily relied upon next season for the Jets. With lots of question marks surrounding the Jets third pairing, there will be added pressure and workload for Morrissey and DeMelo to perform in front of Connor Hellebuyck.
