The deadline for NHL teams to elect for arbitration ended Saturday. In a twist of events, the Boston Bruins opted out of arbitration for their star goaltender Jeremy Swayman, potentially leaving the team in a vulnerable spot.
A realistic offer sheet for Jeremy Swayman, 25, would likely come at a high price point which could look like $6.87M-$9.16M AAV per season. The Bruins could potentially match a max offer for Swayman even if it comes to that, but the hefty $9.16M would become very close to the Bruins salary-cap ceiling.
According to CapFriendly, the only teams currently able to afford Swayman in that Tier 5 price range would be the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken. It's looking like the Montreal Canadiens are emerging as front runners for the all-star goalie.
