The Jets must make one essential move in order to stay competitive in the NHL's central division.

It's no secret that the Jets are stuck in "win now mode". Fans are concerned that they have regressed significantly as they have lost plenty of elite talent to free agency. In order to stay competitive, the Jets must consider moving on from one of their pized assets.

Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall for forward Nikolaj Ehlers, and the Jets need to maximize the return on a valuable asset. The Jets should trade Ehlers as soon as possible while his trade value is still high.

What should the Jets do heading into training camp?

Entering the last season on his current contract, Ehlers is going to hit the open market in 2025 whether the Jets like it or not. They can either lose him for nothing or trade him for some return, and the Jets need to end the speculation and finally move on from Nikolaj Ehlers.

It would be wise for general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff to take a risk and trade Ehlers before its too late. Nikolaj remains a valuable asset which could generate a significant return. With performances uncertainties looming next season, the time is now for the Jets.
