Today was a historic day for the Winnipeg Jets, but not in a good way.

The Winnipeg Jets joined the NHL in 1979 after the NHL merged with the WHA. Although the Winnipeg Jets were home to some historical seasons and legendary players such as Teemu Selanne and Dale Hawerchuk, the party was soon over.
Due to accumulating financial troubles, in 1996 the franchise moved to the state Arizona and became the Phoenix Coyotes. 28 years ago, The city of Winnipeg lost lost their beloved team which started a brand new era in the desert.
Although, all hope was not lost for the Jets faithful as their prized franchise was set to return to the great province of Manitoba for the resurgence of Jets 2.0
In 2011, True North Sports & Entertainment Limited bought the struggling Atlanta Thrashers franchise and relocated it from Georgia to Winnipeg, renaming the team the Winnipeg Jets. Forbes magazine placed the value of the Jets at US$375 million in 2017, and at US$650 million in 2022.
I think its safe to say that Winnipeg Jets fans are not celebrating the Coyotes birthday today. Although the Jets have been scrutinized for their poor home game attendance, the Jets are glad they have a hockey team and continue to love it.
