The Winnipeg Jets are buzzing in the NHL right now amidst trades and rumours.

As the Jets head into the 2024-2025 season, Jets Latest breaks down some the worst case scenarios that could potentially happen for the team. Among the noteworthy bad situations that could arise, trading away Nikolaj Ehlers is one of them.
A worst-case scenario could also lead to Ehlers being traded, and dealing a top-six player is not a good look for a team that considers itself a Stanley Cup contender. The dynamic forward is a pending unrestricted free agent in the last season of his contract, and if the Jets haven't re-signed him and aren't competitive by the 2025 Trade Deadline, Cheveldayoff may be forced to swap him for future assets to avoid losing him for nothing.

The Winnipeg Jets are currently stuck in "win now" mode. Trading away a prized asset like Ehlers would be an incredibly bad look for the team and would only decrease their chances of Winning a cup.
Nikolaj Ehlers has been part of the Winnipeg Jets franchise since his emergence in the NHL. He's done nothing but deliver offence on a consistent basis and deserves a far better fate than a deadline trade.
Fans are fearful that if general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff were to offload Ehlers to another team, the future of the Jets could seriously be jeopardized. Getting rid of a lifelong member of their organization could disrupt chemistry on the Jets top 6 and could kick-start a re-build.
