Nikolaj Ehlers was a name heavily mentioned in the NHL offseason trade rumour mill.
Fans were watching closely as Kevin Cheveldayoff seemed poised to offload his prized asset to a different team, but as it stands, Nikolaj Ehlers will be remaining a Winnipeg Jet for 2024-2025 NHL season. With that in mind, what are the expectations for Ehlers come puck-drop?
The difference between last year and this year is that Ehlers will be more heavily relied upon on the Jets projected 2nd line. If Ehlers is on a line with Vladislav Namestnikov and Cole Perfetti, Ehlers will be the one expected to «carry» his linemates to success.
Going back to Ehlers himself, I do expect him to put a certain level of pressure on himself to have a career year this upcoming season. Ehlers has already proved himself in the league, but that doesn't mean he won't be motivated to work extra hard to earn his next contract.
Jets Nation has made some bold predictions for Ehlers heading into next season. Ehlers is anticipated to put up a 25 goal season. Where the Danish forward will see a significant boost of production pertains to the assist column. If healthy, Ehlers should manage 45 assists, which would put his point total at a career personal best of 70.
