Winnipeg Jets defensive prospect Alfons Freij has his eyes set on cracking the Swedish World Juniors roster, but his odds are looking increasingly bad.

Alfons Freij is a smooth skating, elite passing D-man. He's capable of shifting his weight left and right with ease, and the young Swede constantly applies deception to his every move.
Drafted in 37th overall at the 2024 NHL entry draft in Las Vegas, the Jets definitely have a prospect to be excited about. Although he's a highly skilled defender, his odds on cracking the Swedish World Juniors roster just took a massive hit.
Alfons Freij was not part of the U20 squad that attended the WJSS but he is taking part in the August five nations tourney in Switzerland. So he's at least on the Swedish radar for this years World Junior team though a long shot to make it at this point

Not being named to the WJSS U20 squad is a pretty clear indication that his chances of making team Sweden are relatively low. Although, there is still some optimism that lies ahead for Freij. The young Jets prospect will have one last chance to impress his coaches at the 5 Nations Tournament on Aug 27th in Zug, Switzerland.
