Ken Wiebe and Mike McIntyre of the Free Press have been covering all the drama as of late, and it appears the club is leaning towards potentially salvaging their relationship with Rutger as the Jets own the rights to him for the next two seasons.
McGroarty believes he is NHL-ready, while the Jets demand he starts with their AHL affiliate for further development. This disagreement has led to tension, with McGroarty's NHL rights held by the Jets until August 2026. McGroarty has made the strategic decision to play in the NCAA for the next two seasons in hopes of gaining a favourable trade deal within that time frame.
Unfortunately for Jets enthusiasts who would like to see McGroarty gone, it appears that GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will do anything in his power to mend the broken relationship between the two camps. Perhaps McGroarty will be staying in Jets nation long-term if communication continues to improve between the two.
