Since the emergence of the Jets 2.0, the franchise have been regular visitors to the postseason.
Despite not being able to attain Stanley Cup glory, at least the team has reached a level of consistency. Frequenting the post season on an annual basis is something the Jets should be proud of, even if they end up being painful first round exits.
Although the Jets have been good enough over the past decade to be playoff contenders, we take a look at some of the unluckier teams who have struggled to make post season appearances.
5. San Jose Sharks (5 seasons):Last appearance: 2018-19.
The Sharks' playoff run ended after acquiring
Erik Karlsson. They've been in rebuild mode since finally securing the 2024 No. 1 draft pick,
Macklin Celebrini.
4. Anaheim Ducks (6 seasons):Last appearance: 2017-18.
The Ducks have struggled post-Getzlaf and Perry era, but a promising young core led by
Leo Carlsson and
Mason McTavish offers hope.
3. Ottawa Senators (7 seasons):
Last appearance: 2016-17.
After a magical 2017 run, Ottawa dismantled its core, and despite rebuilding, playoff success has remained elusive.
2. Detroit Red Wings (8 seasons):
Last appearance: 2015-16.
Detroit's 25-year streak ended in 2016. The Red Wings have been rebuilding since, narrowly missing the playoffs last season.
1. Buffalo Sabres (13 seasons):
Last appearance: 2010-11.
Buffalo's last playoff series occurred in 2011, and despite numerous rebuilds and high draft picks, the Sabres have yet to break their drought. They missed the playoffs by seven points in 2023-24, leaving fans wondering if the drought will stretch to 14 seasons.
