Breaking news out of the NHL as once highly regarded NHL prospect Maxime Comtois announces he will leaving the NHL to join the KHL.
On Thursday, the Moscow Dynamo, one of the formidable forces in the KHL dropped a bombshell news flash announcing they have signed Maxime Comtois.
Maxime Comtois was one of those highly sought after prospects that had so much promise at one point. He played for Canada at the 2015 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, the 2016 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and the 2016 and 2017 IIHF Men's Under-18 World Championships. He won the gold medal with Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, and was the team captain.
In 211 NHL appearances, Comtois scored 38 goals and 49 assists for 87 points. In exactly 100 AHL games, he totaled 29 goals and 40 assists, including nine points in 12 Calder Cup Playoff games, all with the Ducks' primary affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.
Unfortunately, Comtois was never really able to gain much traction in the NHL. Comtois ultimately ended up as a huge bust and will be looking to revamp his game in Russia next season.
