Nail Yakupov, a former first overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers in 2012 has his eyes set on making a massive return back to the NHL.

Nail Yakupov is regarded as one of the biggest busts of all time. Since his emergence in the league, he has failed miserably at gaining traction in the NHL and found himself swiftly back in Russia after 6 mediocre seasons in North America.
Once touted as a future star, Yakupov's NHL career fell short of expectations, leading to his departure from the league after just 350 games. Despite a promising start with 17 goals in his rookie season, Yakupov's performance declined, and he only managed to score 62 goals in his entire NHL career.
At 30 years old, Yakupov has been spotted training with Andrei Svechnikov, sparking rumors of a potential return to the NHL. According to reports from The Mug on Instagram, Yakupov may sign a Professional Tryout Offer (PTO) closer to training camp. However, a return to the KHL remains a possibility.

The big question remains is wether the Jets should consider perusing Yakupov if he comes back to the NHL. Yakupov would be a very cheap pickup, and the Jets would be in possession of a former superstar desperate to make an impact early on. Could a potential PTO be on the table for the veteran Russian?
Cheveldayoff has plenty experience dealing with Russian sports agents concerning propsect Dmitry Rashevsky. Therefore, one can only assume negotiations could be a possibility down the stretch. The Jets have been victim to elite UFA's leaving the organization during free agency such as Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli. As it stands, Yakupov could potentially be a suitable replacement if the opportunity presents itself.
