A surprising name has surfaced in the trade mill as Winnipeg Jets forward Sean Monahan is rumoured to have generated interest from the Boston Bruins.

With the Boston Bruins aggressively trying to hunt down Elias Lindholm from the Vancouver Canucks, they will certainly need a backup plan if they aren't able to get a deal done. Sources have confirmed that alternatively, the Bruins are seriously considering acquiring Sean Monahan from the Winnipeg Jets if they fail to hunt down Lindholm.
Monahan is coming off a comeback season after the Jets acquired him from the Montreal Canadiens over the NHL trade deadline last season. Monahan, 29, has proven that he still has plenty of offensive potential and was a fantastic asset for the Winnipeg Jets down the stretch.
Although his time in Winnipeg has been effective, Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff enters the off-season with a very tight salary cap. With just over $13 million in cap space to work with, the likelihood of Monahan returning is slim to none.
"Monahan will certainly be looking for a raise after proving himself this season, and with all the other unrestricted free agents that the Jets have, I don't think they'll be able to afford Monahan unfortunately. His deal will likely be fairly short-term, possibly 3-4 years, but despite him enjoying his time with the Jets he'll be looking to join a team where he could possibly have an even bigger role."
Monahan notched 13 goals and 11 assists in 34 regular season games and was +9 rating on the ice for the Winnipeg Jets.
