Breaking news out the NHL as Winnipeg born general manager Barry Trotz speaks out about the salary cap.

Barry Trotz, a reputable GM currently managing the Nashville Predators speaks out about some of the injustices of the NHL salary cap pertaining to its unfairness.
In the States, there are certain states that are exempt from taxable income such as Florida and Tennessee, and NHL clubs are exploiting it as means to bolster their financial situations.
Players in these states retain more of their earnings due to the absence of state income taxes, making their contracts more lucrative. Trotz highlighted this during an appearance on TSN's Overdrive, noting that this financial edge can be attractive to players, particularly those in the middle tier looking to maximize their earnings.

Although Barry Trotz recognizes the financial benefit of being GM in a state that has financial advantages, he insists that players typically don't target specific teams just for the money.
Furthermore, Trotz goes on to comment on that NHL players are attracted to a destination with a reputable winning culture, and that is entirely true in the case of the Edmonton Oilers for example.
The recent success of tax-free state teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs, such as the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Tampa Bay Lightning, underscores the competitive advantage these teams may hold. This disparity in tax implications adds dimension to the strategic and financial considerations in NHL free agency and roster management.
